1927 is one of Australia’s most successful and loved pop-rock bands.

The Australian band first exploded onto the music scene with their debut album …ISH. The album sold more than half a million copies in Australia and produced hit singles including “That’s When I Think of You,” “If I Could,” “You’ll Never Know,” and “Compulsory Hero.”

As a result, …ISH remains one of the highest-selling debut albums by an Australian recording act.

1927’s Return with Generation-i

1927 Live in Concert

To celebrate the release of Generation-i, 1927 are back on tour and performing live across Australia. Fans recently reconnected with the band as special guests on Roxette’s national tour, where they performed to more than 100,000 people and received rave reviews.

Now more than ever, 1927 is delivering their classic hits alongside exciting new material for loyal Australian audiences.

How 1927 Began

1927 formed in Melbourne in 1987. The band was created by Garry Frost after leaving Moving Pictures, where he co-wrote the number-one Australian hit “What About Me?”

Soon after, Frost saw Eric Weideman perform “Roxanne” on Hey Hey It’s Saturday’s Red Faces and immediately drove from Sydney to Melbourne to recruit him.

Joined by Bill Frost on bass and James Barton on drums, 1927 was officially born. The band’s name came from one of Garry Frost’s favourite sayings:

“I haven’t done that since 1927.”

Breakthrough Success

After signing with Trafalgar Productions, 1927 released their debut single “That’s When I Think of You.”

The track reached No. 6 on the ARIA Charts in 1988. Their second single, “If I Could,” climbed even higher, reaching No. 4.

Soon after, debut album …ISH was released and became an instant success. The album hit No. 1 for four weeks, remained in the ARIA Top 50 for 45 weeks, and achieved five-times platinum status.

To this day, it remains one of Australia’s most successful debut albums.

International Recognition and ARIA Awards

1927 continued their success with two more Top 20 hits:

• “You’ll Never Know”
• “Compulsory Hero”

Meanwhile, “That’s When I Think of You” entered the UK Top 50 and reached the US Billboard Hot 100.

The band won two ARIA Music Awards in 1989 for:

• Breakthrough Artist – Single
• Breakthrough Artist – Album

The following year, they won Best Video for “Compulsory Hero.”
