Early Career at Al Jazeera English
In early 2006, Hamish Macdonald joined the regional headquarters of Al Jazeera English in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, working initially as a producer. Al Jazeera English is the international English-language news channel of the global Al Jazeera network.
Later that year, Macdonald was appointed as a news presenter at the network’s Kuala Lumpur bureau, where he quickly established himself as a talented broadcaster with a strong understanding of international affairs.
Award-Winning Journalism
In February 2008, Hamish Macdonald received the prestigious Young Journalist of the Year award at the Royal Television Society Awards in London. The honour recognised his outstanding contribution to journalism and his growing reputation as a leading international correspondent.
International Correspondent and Sunrise Reporter
Following his success in Kuala Lumpur, Macdonald relocated to Al Jazeera English’s London bureau. During this period, he also served as the United Kingdom correspondent for the Australian breakfast television program Sunrise, reporting on major events and developments across Europe.

In November 2010, Network Ten announced that Hamish Macdonald would join the network as a senior foreign correspondent and fill-in presenter for 6.30 with George Negus.
Television Presenting Roles
During his time at Network Ten, Macdonald became a familiar face to Australian audiences. He regularly appeared as a fill-in presenter on Ten News and was a guest panellist and presenter on The Project.
In June 2012, he was appointed host of the revived Ten Late News, further strengthening his profile as one of Australia’s leading television journalists.
