Jessica Mauboy is one of Australia’s most successful recording artists, known for her achievements as a singer, songwriter, actress and performer. Born in Darwin, Northern Territory, on 4 August 1989, Mauboy rose to national fame after finishing as runner-up on Australian Idol in 2006.

Jessica Mauboy comes from a proud Indigenous Australian background, with her family originating from the Kuku Yalanji people of Far North Queensland. Her mother is Indigenous Australian, while her father is of Timorese-Indonesian heritage.

In 2006, Jessica Mauboy auditioned for the fourth season of Australian Idol in Alice Springs. Her powerful performance of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” impressed the judges and secured her place in the competition.

Following Australian Idol, Mauboy released her debut live album, The Journey, in 2007. The album featured performances from the show and debuted in the Top 5 of the ARIA Albums Chart.
Later that year, she joined the popular Australian girl group Young Divas, replacing Ricki-Lee Coulter. The group’s album New Attitude achieved commercial success and further expanded Mauboy’s profile within the Australian music industry.
After a year with the group, she left to focus on her solo career.

Jessica Mauboy’s debut solo studio album, Been Waiting, was released in 2008 and became a major success. The album achieved double-platinum certification and remained on the ARIA charts for more than a year.
