Susie Youssef
Early Life and Career Beginnings
Susie Youssef is one of Australia’s most talented comedians, writers, actresses and television personalities. Her passion for comedy began during high school, where she wrote and performed her own plays. Initially, Youssef studied education with plans to become a teacher. However, after attending an improvisational comedy show at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, she discovered a passion for comedy that would change the course of her career.
Determined to pursue comedy professionally, Susie Youssef left her studies and travelled to the United States to attend iO Chicago, where she trained in improvisational performance and comedy.
Television and Acting Career
Susie Youssef began her professional comedy career in 2006 as a writer for the popular Australian television series The Ronnie Johns Half Hour. She later expanded into acting, making her screen debut in the short film Clicked in 2011.
Her acting career continued to grow with roles in productions such as Kevin Needs to Make New Friends: Because Everyone Hates Him for Some Reason and appearances on television programs including The Chaser’s Media Circus. In 2014, Youssef starred as Sarah in The Boat People, a stage production by the Hayloft Project that won the Best On Stage Award at the FBi SMAC Awards.
Comedy Festival Success
Live comedy quickly became a major focus for Susie Youssef. She made her solo festival debut with the sketch comedy show Sketchual Chocolate, performing at both the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Sydney Comedy Festival.
In 2015, she returned to the festival circuit with her show Owl Eyes On You. Her growing popularity saw her take her comedy overseas in 2016, performing at both the London comedy scene and the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival with her stand-up show Check Youssef Before You Wreck Youssef.
Television Appearances
Throughout her career, Susie Youssef has become a familiar face on Australian television. She has appeared on programs including Community Kitchen, About Tonight, The Checkout and Game Night.
Youssef has also held recurring roles in popular comedy series such as How Not to Behave, Whose Line Is It Anyway? Australia, No Activity and Rosehaven. In 2016, she also appeared as a guest performer in Here Come the Habibs.
Continued Success
In 2017, Susie Youssef toured Australia with her successful comedy show Behave Youssef. During the same year, she made her debut on the hit Australian comedy news quiz show Have You Been Paying Attention?, further cementing her reputation as one of Australia’s leading comedic performers.
Today, Susie Youssef continues to entertain audiences through stand-up comedy, television appearances, writing and live performances, making her one of the most versatile and respected figures in Australian comedy.
