Tony Squires
Tony Squires is an Australian sports presenter, television host, radio broadcaster, and writer known for his work across major Australian media networks.
Early television career
In 2000, Squires began hosting the sports program The Fat on ABC Television. He remained with the show throughout its run until it was axed in late 2003.
In 2004, he joined the Seven Network to host 110% Tony Squires, a revamped sports program that ran for one season.
In 2008, he moved to Network Ten to host Big Mouth, a panel show focused on reality television and Big Brother. The program also lasted one season.
Seven Network and sports presenting
In April 2010, Squires replaced Alex Cullen as weekday sports presenter on Seven News Sydney. He held the role until August 2012, when he was replaced by Jim Wilson.
During this period, he also worked as a fill-in presenter for Andrew O’Keefe on Weekend Sunrise and Larry Emdur on The Morning Show.
In August 2012, he became a reporter for Sunday Night on the Seven Network, stepping away from his sports presenting duties on Seven News Sydney. This made him the second sports presenter from the Sydney bulletin to transition into a Sunday Night reporting role, following Alex Cullen.
In 2013, Squires began hosting Back Page Live on Fox Sports alongside Matt Shirvington.
Radio career
Squires began his radio career writing news bulletins for Sydney station 2SM and SBS Radio station 2EA.
In 2005, he co-hosted the drive program on Vega 95.3 Sydney with Rebecca Wilson. In 2007, Mikey Robins joined the program, but Squires and Robins were let go in 2009 following Wilson’s retirement.
In 2010, Squires joined Triple M to host The Grapple on Sunday mornings alongside Andrew Johns and Mark Geyer. In 2011, he began hosting The Ruck, a rugby-focused program on Triple M with Tim Horan and Matt Burke. He has also appeared as a fill-in presenter on The Grill Team.
Writing
In 2009, Squires published Cracking The Footy Codes: A Beginner’s Guide to AFL, League, Union and Football, a guidebook introducing major football codes to new audiences.
