James Tobin
Early Career in Television and Radio
James Tobin began his media career with Nickelodeon Australia, working on the popular children’s Saturday morning program Saturday Nick Television (SNTV). His success on the show led to opportunities to host and participate in numerous Nickelodeon programs and special events.
Alongside his television work, Tobin gained experience in the music and radio industries, working with major Australian radio stations including 2Day FM, Mix 106.5 and 2WS. He also worked with Captain Cooke Productions and MTV, building a diverse media background.
Joining the Seven Network
In 2004, James Tobin joined the Seven Network and became the host of the children’s game show Go Go Stop. The program featured school students competing across a floor of plasma screens while answering multiple-choice questions. Tobin remained with the show until 2008.
The Big Arvo and Music Television
In 2005, Tobin co-hosted Seven Network’s The Big Arvo. The program saw him reporting both on location and in the studio, taking part in a wide variety of activities ranging from cartooning to bull riding.
One memorable segment involved spending a week living in a remote Australian community, where he learned about Indigenous culture and traditions. Although The Big Arvo was cancelled at the end of 2005, it helped raise Tobin’s profile as a television presenter.
Also in 2005, he began hosting Allphone’s Eclipse Music TV, a music program broadcast on Saturday afternoons on the Seven Network.
Sunrise Entertainment Reporter
In 2008, James Tobin joined Sunrise as the program’s Entertainment Reporter. In this role, he covered the latest music releases, movie reviews and entertainment news.
Tobin replaced well-known entertainment personalities Molly Meldrum and Jono Coleman, bringing a fresh approach to the role and becoming a popular member of the Sunrise team.
Dancing with the Stars and Acting Appearances
In 2009, Tobin competed in the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars Australia, showcasing his talents beyond television presenting.
The same year, he made a guest appearance in the Australian medical drama All Saints, playing the role of a coma patient.
Weekend Sunrise Weather Presenter
In October 2009, James Tobin was appointed weather presenter for Weekend Sunrise. He also regularly filled in for weekday Sunrise weather presenter Grant Denyer.
During May and June 2011, Tobin presented the weather on both Sunrise and Weekend Sunrise for 30 consecutive days while Denyer was on paternity leave, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to the role.
Television Hosting and Charity Work
In April 2010, Tobin was named runner-up in the Cleo Bachelor of the Year competition, finishing behind actor Firass Dirani.
He has also been an ambassador for Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off The Streets Get Reel program, supporting initiatives designed to help young Australians develop media and communication skills.
In addition, Tobin hosted the second series of the Australian lifestyle television program No Leave, No Life, which focused on encouraging Australians to make the most of their annual leave entitlements.
Beauty and the Geek Australia
On 26 April 2013, it was announced that James Tobin would become the new host of Beauty and the Geek Australia. The role further expanded his television career and reinforced his reputation as one of Australia’s most versatile television presenters.
