Early Radio Career

Tim Blackwell is one of Australia’s most recognised radio presenters, best known for entertaining listeners across the country as part of Nova’s popular national Drive program. His broadcasting career with the Nova Entertainment network began in 2001 when he joined Nova 100 Melbourne as a late-night announcer.

This early role provided Tim Blackwell with valuable on-air experience and marked the beginning of a successful career in Australian commercial radio.

Building a Career with Nova

In 2002, Tim Blackwell relocated to Perth to host Nova 93.7’s local Drive show. He became the first voice heard on the station when it launched, introducing listeners to the new network with an exclusive interview featuring the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Two years later, Tim moved to Sydney to host Nova 96.9’s local Drive program. His growing popularity and broadcasting skills soon led to further opportunities within the Nova network.

In 2006, Tim Blackwell joined the highly successful Hughesy & Kate breakfast show on Nova 100 Melbourne as an anchor. He later teamed up with Hayley Pearson to host Nova 100’s evening program, Launchpad, further expanding his profile within Australian radio.

National Success with Meshel, Tim & Marty

A major milestone in Tim Blackwell’s career came in 2009 when he joined Nova 106.9 Brisbane’s breakfast show alongside Meshel Laurie. The following year, comedian Marty Sheargold joined the team, creating the popular Meshel, Tim & Marty program.

The show’s success quickly led to a national audience, with the team becoming Nova’s national Drive show in 2011. Their unique blend of humour, entertainment and engaging conversation made them one of Australia’s most successful radio teams.

Kate, Tim & Marty

In 2014, actress and radio personality Kate Ritchie joined the program, creating the award-winning Kate, Tim & Marty show. The trio became known for their entertaining chemistry and innovative content.

During their time together, the team launched their own cider brand, transformed popular radio segments into mobile games and even broadcast their show from a private jet. Their creativity and popularity earned widespread industry recognition.

In 2015, Kate, Tim & Marty won the Australian Commercial Radio Award (ACRA) for Best Networked Program. In the same year, Tim Blackwell received an individual ACRA for Best Entertainment/Music Presenter, highlighting his contribution to Australian radio broadcasting.
